Endoscopic stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (PIV)

Endoscopic Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is an optical measurement method for the three-dimensional recording of velocity fields in turbomachinery with minimal intervention in the housing.

Description

Areas of application

  • Non-contact measurements: The non-invasive method enables precise measurement of the flow field without influencing it

  • Non-steady-state flow fields: The area-wide and time-resolved acquisition of the flow field, enables the analysis of complex, non-periodic flow domains

Functionality

  • Measurement variable: Flow velocity of all three velocity components

  • Measurement principle:
    • Two cameras capture images of the particle-laden flow.
    • Evaluation and back-transformation provide the velocity field in the measuring plane

  • Extensions to the TFD:
    • Integration of endoscopes for light section generation and image acquisition

Properties

  • Minimally invasive access: Endoscopic design enables measurements without large optical access points in the housing
