Test rig for turbocharging and electrically driven compressor systems

The test rig for turbocharging and electrically driven compressor systems (PAE) supports the development and optimization of exhaust gas turbochargers, fuel cell turbocharging systems and electrically driven compressors. Thanks to state-of-the-art measurement technology and flexible infrastructure, the test bench enables reliable and precise testing.

Description

Areas of application

  • Research and optimization of single- and dual-flow turbochargers

  • Development of turbocharging systems for fuel cells

  • Investigation of electrically driven compressor systems

  • Analysis of hot gas components

Technical setup and operation

  • Flexibility: Modular test rig with hot gas generators (HGG), compressor back pressure unit (CBPU), lubricating oil and cooling water conditioning

  • Closed-loop operation: Compressor closed-loop unit (CCLU) for varying the operating ranges independently of the compressor

  • Reproducibility: Precise conditions for reproducible measurements, supported by state-of-the-art control and measurement technology

  • Location: The test rig is installed at the Energy Research Center of Lower Saxony (EFZN) in Goslar and was partially funded by an ERDF project

Measurement technology

  • Pressure and temperature measurement technology: Steady and unsteady sensors (type K & Pt100)

  • Flow analyses: CTA/CCA probes and L2F/PIV for velocity measurement and flow field analysis

  • Blade vibrations: Tip timing and acceleration sensors

  • Erosion and deformation studies: Blow-by meters and wave path measurements with eddy current sensors

  • Electronics control: Control and evaluation of power electronics
